Handling
- Catch and receive ball correctly.
- Ability to pass ball; speed of pass,
body position, length of pass, height of pass, in front of chest of
receiver.
- Ability to hold the ball correctly two
hands or one, if one hand-ball in outside arm leaving outside field arm
free for hand off.
- Ability to protect ball in maul and to
make it available for support player.
- Ability to stand in tackle
for release of ball to support.
- Ability to throw the ball into line out
if required.
- Ability to maintain continuity of
attack; to rip from maul if necessary.
- Ability to field any ball in the air or
on the ground.
Running
- Ability to run with pace and
determination carrying ball.
- Ability to run with control; change
pace, swerve, change step, side step, change direction
- Ability to run with body angle slightly
forward.
- Ability to run with high knee action and
arm in position for hand off.
Kicking
- Ability to kick accurately with either
foot.
- Ability to execute a variety of kicks;
cross kick, chip ahead, clearing line kick, deep punt, knee kick, grubber
kick, dummy kick, drop kick.
- Ability to dribble ball.
Contact
- Ability to tackle effectively from
front, rear and side.
- Ability to hand off and to burst through
a tackle.
- Ability to retain possession in contact.
- Ability to maul, rip or make ball
available.
- Ability to ruck ball if close to play on
ground.
- Ability to position body for drive;
running or in a maul.
- Ability to fall on ball and quickly
regain feet.
Position
- Knowledge and skill of positioning for
defence or attack.
- Ability to position correctly (with
variation) for set play; scrum, line out, 25 drop out, kick off.
- Position to support play and make extra
man.
- Position for cover defence.
- Positioning for various ¾ moves

play effectively.

scored against you.
